From UAL to Interior Styling
Eleanor's journey into home styling began during her
university years at the University of the Arts London. She
studied Interior Design with a focus on spatial design and
colour theory, graduating in 2010. That education gave her a
foundation in how spaces work, but it wasn't until after
graduation that she discovered her real passion: helping
ordinary people make their homes beautiful without major
expense or structural change.
After university, she worked for three years with a boutique
interior design studio in East London. The work was
interesting—high-end clients, prestigious projects, beautiful
homes. But there was a gap. She noticed most people didn't
have budgets for full renovations or interior design services.
They just wanted their spaces to feel better.
The Rental Flat Moment
That changed when she moved into a Victorian rental flat in
Hackney. Suddenly, she was facing the same problem as millions
of others: how do you make a temporary space feel like home
without risking your deposit? You can't paint, you can't
drill, you can't make permanent changes. But you can layer.
You can position plants strategically. You can build warmth
through textiles and thoughtful arrangement.
She spent the next decade developing and testing practical
techniques for rental-friendly styling. She worked with major
UK property platforms including SpareRoom and Rightmove's
lifestyle team, consulting on how to make properties more
attractive to renters without costly renovations. She also
worked with numerous landlords, helping them understand that
beautiful, well-styled properties attract better tenants and
command better rates.
Building a Reputation
Her approach is rooted in a simple belief: a home's warmth
comes from thoughtful styling, not structural changes. She's
particularly drawn to seasonal British traditions—from Bonfire
Night displays to Christmas décor—and has built a reputation
for creating Instagram-worthy results that don't require a
tradesperson.
At sandenburg Ltd, she translates fourteen years of hands-on
experience into accessible, authentic guides. These aren't
theoretical articles written by someone who's never rented or
faced budget constraints. They're tested methodologies from
someone who's lived the challenge and solved it repeatedly for
thousands of readers.
